Privacy Policy

Daria Laoshi

Last Updated: August 13, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Daria Laoshi application and its supporting services.

1. Overview

Daria Laoshi is a language-learning application that provides vocabulary study sets, practice modes, optional account synchronization, AI-assisted set creation, and Reading Assistant functionality.

We do not sell personal information, display third-party advertising, or use the application for cross-app behavioural tracking.

Some features operate entirely on your device. AI-assisted and synchronization features require information to be transmitted securely to our supporting services.

2. Guest Mode

You may use Daria Laoshi without creating an account.

In Guest mode:

  • study sets and normal learning progress are stored on your device;
  • account synchronization is not used;
  • content submitted for AI-assisted conversion or Reading preparation is transmitted to our service for processing;
  • queued Reading inputs may be stored temporarily on the server until the job completes, fails, is cancelled, or expires;
  • completed Guest results are available only to the device holding the corresponding protected job credential.

Guest content is not automatically converted into account content. Importing Guest data into an account requires an explicit user action.

3. Optional Accounts

If you create an account, we process:

  • your chosen username;
  • an account identifier;
  • a securely derived password hash;
  • session information;
  • synchronized study and reading data.

Plain-text passwords are not stored.

Session credentials are stored securely on the device using Apple Keychain and are represented on the server by protected token hashes.

Daria Laoshi does not require an email address for application-account registration.

4. Study and Reading Data

Depending on the features you use, the application may process:

  • study-language profiles;
  • vocabulary and collocation sets;
  • words, phrases, translations, pronunciation, and reading marks;
  • remembered-card state;
  • Quiz and Typing results;
  • language and translation preferences;
  • Reading Assistant documents;
  • pronunciation and translation hints requested during reading;
  • learning-difficulty evidence;
  • Reading interaction statistics;
  • deletion and synchronization records.

For signed-in users, supported data is stored on our server to provide synchronization across devices.

For Guest users, completed study data normally remains on the device unless it is submitted for AI processing.

5. AI-Assisted Processing

AI-assisted features may process:

  • typed or pasted vocabulary;
  • photographs, screenshots, or selected image areas;
  • locally recognised OCR text;
  • an optional limited surrounding context image for a rough image selection;
  • requested translation language;
  • generated study cards, pronunciation, reading marks, and translations.

This information is transmitted over an encrypted connection to our server and then processed through an AI service provider.

Reusable AI-provider credentials are stored only on the server and are not included in the application.

Our provider requests are configured with provider-side response storage disabled where supported by the integration. Processing by the provider remains subject to the provider’s applicable terms and privacy practices.

6. Reading-Job Processing

Reading preparation may continue as a server-side job after the application screen is closed or the device application is suspended.

To provide this functionality:

  • selected Reading images, OCR text, and limited selection context may be stored temporarily in private server storage;
  • temporary inputs are not publicly accessible;
  • inputs are deleted after completion, failure, cancellation, or expiry according to the job-retention policy;
  • completed signed-in results may be added to synchronized Recent Readings;
  • completed Guest results require the protected Guest job credential.

Normal diagnostic logs do not contain raw images, OCR text, vocabulary content, passwords, session tokens, or AI credentials.

7. Operational and Security Information

We may process limited technical information required to operate and protect the service, including:

  • request and job identifiers;
  • date and time;
  • route and response status;
  • processing duration;
  • input and output counts and sizes;
  • model and aggregate usage information;
  • sanitized error categories;
  • pseudonymous client or account references;
  • network information used for abuse prevention and rate limiting.

This information is used for:

  • service reliability;
  • troubleshooting;
  • security;
  • rate limiting;
  • cost and capacity management;
  • detecting misuse.

8. Local Device Storage

The application may use:

  • UserDefaults;
  • application-support files;
  • private cache files;
  • Apple Keychain.

Some locally cached information may be removed automatically by the operating system or by the application’s retention rules.

Removing the application may remove locally stored Guest information, subject to Apple platform behaviour and device backups.

9. Synchronization and Retention

Signed-in data is retained while required to provide account functionality and according to the application’s content-retention rules.

Temporary Reading-job inputs are retained only for job processing and expiry handling.

Operational diagnostic information is retained for a limited period.

An inactive account may be removed according to the account-retention policy described by the application and supporting service.

10. Sharing of Information

Information is shared only where needed to operate the application, including with:

  • hosting and infrastructure providers;
  • the AI service provider used for conversion and Reading preparation;
  • Apple platform services used by the application;
  • authorities where disclosure is legally required.

We do not sell personal information to advertisers or data brokers.

11. Security

We use measures intended to protect application data, including:

  • encrypted HTTPS transport;
  • password hashing;
  • protected session-token storage;
  • private server storage;
  • access controls;
  • request authentication;
  • rate limiting;
  • privacy-safe diagnostic logging.

No electronic system can be guaranteed completely secure.

12. Your Choices

You may:

  • use Guest mode without creating an account;
  • choose whether to create an account;
  • choose whether to import Guest data into an account;
  • delete study sets and readings;
  • sign out;
  • delete your account and synchronized Daria Laoshi data through the application;
  • contact support regarding a privacy question.

Deleting an account does not automatically remove unrelated support emails you may previously have sent.

13. Children

Daria Laoshi is an educational application. Account creation and AI-assisted processing should be used with appropriate parental or guardian supervision where required by local law.

We do not knowingly use children’s information for advertising or behavioural profiling.

14. International Processing

Supporting infrastructure and service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Appropriate technical and contractual safeguards are used where applicable.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when application functionality, service providers, or legal requirements change.

The current version will be published on this page with an updated revision date.
